Biography

Nicolas Fillion is an Associate Professor at Simon Fraser University in the Department of Philosophy. He completed his PhD in Philosophy at Western University and holds various degrees including an MSc in Applied Mathematics. His main research interests include the philosophy of science, applied mathematics, logic, scientific computation, and the history of mathematics, with specific focus on conspiracy theories and decision game theory. Nicolas has been actively involved in outreach initiatives aimed at promoting critical thinking in BC high schools and currently serves as the director of the SFU Ethics Bowl project. He has recently been recognized with the Lesley B. Cormack Award for Excellence in Teaching. His research is largely funded by SSHRC Insight Grants, notably for the project “The Pillar of Scientific Rationality.” Nicolas has published extensively in academic journals and has authored books examining algorithms, complexity, and numerical methods. He is also engaged with various professional organizations, including serving as the past President of the Canadian Society for the History and Philosophy of Science. His contributions enrich both the academic community and public understanding of philosophy.
