Biography

Nicolas Graham is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Sociology at the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on the political economy of decarbonization and the energy transition, aiming to understand the social forces and actors that enable or obstruct effective climate action. He is particularly interested in the resisting interests that shape climate action and identifying pathways for a rapid, extensive green transition. His current work examines organized efforts to prevent robust action on climate change in Canada and the United States, exploring the economic organization and political-cultural influences of the fossil fuel sector. Graham studies the role of conservative think-tank advocacy networks in obstructing climate action policies and investigates competing frameworks for climate action in Canada. He conducted a comprehensive analysis of Canada's environmental movement, assessing its strategies and political capacities to influence climate policy.
