Nicolas Grandjean received his PhD in physics from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis in 1994. Following this, he became a staff member at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). In 2004, he was appointed as a tenure-track assistant professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where he established the Laboratory for Advanced Semiconductors, Photonics, and Electronics. He was promoted to full professor in 2009 and served as the director of the Institute of Condensed Matter Physics from 2012 to 2016. Grandjean has received numerous awards, including the Sandoz Family Foundation Grant for Academic Promotion, the Nakamura Lecturer Award in 2010, the Quantum Devices Award in 2017, and the Polysphère d'Or teaching award in 2022. He has authored over 600 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has been an active participant in major international conferences. His research interests focus on physics technology related to III-V nitride wide-bandgap semiconductor quantum photonics.
