Dr. Nicolas Legrand

Biography

Nicolas Legrand is a research officer at the Kirby Institute, University of New South Wales, specializing in Global Health programs, particularly in Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Control. He holds a Master of International Public Health and a Master of Public Health from UNSW and a Bachelor of Arts and Science (Honours) from the University of Sydney. With five years of experience in microbiology research and teaching at the University of Sydney, Nicolas focuses on various research projects at the Kirby Institute. His work includes producing epidemiological reports on outbreak infections, particularly syphilis in Aboriginal communities, and enhancing HTLV-1 surveillance in Australia. Nicolas has also investigated COVID-19 outbreaks in correctional facilities and is the principal investigator of Australia's first longitudinal cohort study aimed at evaluating the impact of HTLV-1 infection on morbidity and mortality in remote Aboriginal communities in Central Australia. He completed an internship with the World Health Organization in the Philippines, where he focused on strengthening the national hepatitis B surveillance system.
