Biography

Nicolas Papernot is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, where he holds a Canada CIFAR AI Chair. He is a faculty affiliate of the Schwartz Reisman Institute and serves as Co-Director of the Canadian AI Safety Institute Research Program. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Pennsylvania State University, mentored by Professor Patrick McDaniel, and supported by the Google PhD Fellowship. After graduating, Nicolas worked with Google Brain and continues to engage with Google DeepMind. His research interests include collaborative learning, dataset inference, machine unlearning, and various aspects of trustworthy machine learning. Over the years, he has received multiple accolades such as the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, the ACM SIGSAC Outstanding Early-Career Researcher Award, and the Samsung AI Researcher of the Year Award. He has served as Program Co-Chair for numerous conferences, including the IEEE Conference on Secure and Trustworthy Machine Learning and the Neural Information Processing Systems Conference, and is recognized for his contributions to the community through numerous public discussions and presentations.
