Biography

Dr. Pérez graduated from the University of Puerto Rico and the Ponce School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the Ponce School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and underwent Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship training at Yale University School of Medicine. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine and provides outpatient clinical care in Geriatric Psychiatry with a focus on Primary Care Mental Health Integration at the Veteran Affairs (VA) Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven, CT. Dr. Pérez primarily delivers culturally competent care to the Latino veteran population and has expertise in older Latino mental health, complex neuropsychiatric illnesses, and cognitive disorders. He also serves as the Director of Clinical Research Services for the Latino Community at the Yale University Alzheimer’s Disease Research Unit (ADRU), where he leads clinical research aimed at improving treatment for Alzheimer’s disease within the Latino community. Additionally, Dr. Pérez is actively involved in the education and supervision of fellows and students in Geriatric Psychiatry and Geriatric Medicine. He co-directs the Yale Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Journal Club and is a member of the Teaching and Training Committee of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry. Dr. Pérez is board certified in General Geriatric Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and his research interests include engaging Latino populations in clinical trials for Alzheimer’s Disease and recruiting underrepresented trainees in the field of Geriatric Psychiatry.
