Biography

Nicole Cassie joined the University of Glasgow in 2021, where she teaches courses in Central and Eastern European Studies within the School of Social and Political Sciences. A fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she has a particular interest in innovative and inclusive pedagogy. In 2024, she joined the leadership of the Innovative Pedagogy Hub at the School. Prior to her position at Glasgow, she worked at the University of Stirling as a Module Coordinator and Subject Teacher on the Pre-Masters programme from 2018 to 2021, where she designed courses and supervised dissertations for international graduates in Social Sciences to prepare them for Master’s level study in UK universities. Nicole completed her PhD in History at the University of Glasgow in 2018, with a thesis that focused on American medical personnel who served during the Vietnam War, which was funded by the College of Arts PhD Scholarship and the William and Margaret Kesson Award. Additionally, she was a visiting researcher at the American Folklife Center, Library of Congress, and a Summer Scholar at the Eccles Centre for American Studies at the British Library. Her current research projects include a comparative analysis of trauma and resilience among veterans of the US-Vietnam War and Soviet-Afghan War, as well as exploring active learning and student-led teaching approaches in Area Studies.
