Biography

Nicole Heilbron is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Duke University, where she specializes in child clinical psychology. Her research focuses on child and adolescent trauma and maltreatment, nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI), as well as suicide-related thoughts and behaviors. She is also engaged in studying mood and anxiety disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Dr. Heilbron obtained her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2007. She has an extensive background in clinical services, currently holding the position of Vice-Chair for Pediatric Psychiatry and Psychology at Duke. Her work has led to several significant grants aimed at suicide prevention and addressing health disparities in mental health care. She has held past appointments including Interim Co-Division Director of Adult Psychiatry and Co-Division Director of Child and Family Mental Health. Her contributions to the field have been recognized through various awards and research initiatives directed at treating adolescents with mental health challenges, particularly in regard to substance abuse and suicidal behavior.
