Biography

Professor Nicole Jones is a Physical Oceanographer at the University of Western Australia. She employs a combination of field observations and numerical modeling to study primarily small-scale ocean dynamics, turbulent mixing, internal waves, and ocean eddies. Her research is vital for quantifying the transport of heat, pollutants, and nutrients in the ocean. Nicole has extensive fieldwork and cruise experience and has a particular interest in developing novel field-observation techniques. She served as an Editor for the Journal of Physical Oceanography from 2018 to 2022 and represents the Western Australian marine science community as a leading node in Australia’s Integrated Marine Observing System. In 2019, Nicole was a member of the Research Advisory Committee for the Marine National Facility. She is also actively involved in promoting women's leadership roles in STEM through various local and national efforts.
