Biography

Nicole Miller is an artist primarily working with video, based in Southern California. Her work explores the possibilities of representation and how it facilitates reconstitution. Through video installations and sculptures, Miller proposes an active approach to viewing that serves as a tool to reconstitute personal histories and explore one's own body. She has held solo exhibitions at various prestigious institutions including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Marfa Ballroom, Centre D’art Contemporain in Geneva, Kunst Werk in Berlin, California African American Museum, Tucson Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum. Additionally, Miller has participated in group exhibitions at notable venues such as the Studio Museum in Harlem, LA Biennial at the Hammer Museum, Musée d'art contemporain de Lyon, and the San Francisco Museum of Art. As a recognized artist, Miller has received several awards including the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome, the Guggenheim Fellowship, the William H. Johnson Prize, the Rema Hort Mann Prize, the Louis Comfort Tiffany Prize, and the Artadia Los Angeles Award. Her work is included in the collections of the LA County Museum, Hammer Museum, and SFMOMA.
