Nicole Power is a feminist sociologist with research focused on the gender impacts of fisheries restructuring on work and workers within fisheries communities, as well as on young people's experiences and understandings of work and life in relation to outmigration from these communities. Her research spans various work contexts including fisheries, corrections, skilled trades, high-risk occupations, and academia, emphasizing health and safety concerns. She is currently a co-investigator with the Ocean Frontier Institute, addressing issues related to recruitment, training, and retention in the fisheries sector, as well as equity and diversity considerations within fisheries and the intersection of systems of oppression and fish ontologies. Additionally, she is involved in the SSHRC-CIHR Partnership focused on the mental health of professional and knowledge workers, co-leading a case study on gender and mental health in academia. In her spare time, she engages in a pilot project examining students' and researchers' experiences with animals in research, teaching, and learning contexts.
