Biography

Nicole St-Louis is a prominent researcher in the field of astrophysics, focusing on the study of massive stars and their wind structures. She has made significant contributions to understanding how these stars—with luminosities reaching millions of times that of the Sun—lose a substantial portion of their mass over their lifetimes. Her work involves investigating the symmetrical and homogeneous nature of stellar winds, which contain small-scale inhomogeneities and turbulence, alongside larger-scale structures that are generated through mechanisms that are yet to be fully understood. These large-scale structures can have implications for key stellar parameters, such as rotation velocity, which is challenging to measure due to the dense winds obscuring the star's surface. Nicole received her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. in Physics from Université de Montréal and University College London, respectively. She has held the position of Full Professor and has been actively involved in teaching and supervising graduate students in astrophysics. Nicole is also a member of notable research units such as the Mont Mégantic Observatory and the Centre de recherche en astrophysique du Québec.
