Biography

Nicole Valois is a landscape architect and Associate Professor at the School of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture at the University of Montreal, where she teaches urban design studio and heritage and landscape. Her research focuses on modern heritage in landscape architecture in Canada, the characterization and heritage evaluation of designed landscapes and urban ensembles, and the role of drawing in landscape architecture project processes. Notable achievements include her studies on the heritage values of the University of Montreal campus, the evaluation of highway landscapes at Montreal's entrances, and the reconstruction of Olmsted Bridge on Mount Royal, which received recognition from the AAPQ. Valois has also led creation-research projects on the integration of contemporary design in heritage contexts in France. As an expert, she has served on numerous juries and committees including the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec and has been vice-president of the Montreal Heritage Council. Valois has received scholarships from various institutions to pursue her research in creation, heritage, and the history of landscape architecture.
