Biography

Nicole Votruba is a Senior Research Fellow at the Nuffield Department of Women's & Reproductive Health, University of Oxford. She leads the Global Mental Health & Equity Group and serves as a Principal Investigator for the SMARThealth Perinatal Mental Health project. Her research focuses on implementing community-based mental health care for women during pregnancy and the first year after birth, emphasizing the need to evaluate health services to improve long-term outcomes. Nicole's previous affiliations include working with Professor Sir Graham Thornicroft at King’s College London, where she coordinated global mental health research and contributed to significant policy initiatives aimed at integrating mental health into the UN Sustainable Development Goals. She is a trained psychologist and political scientist, with a PhD that investigated the relationship between mental health science and policy in low to middle-income countries. Nicole has also held honorary research fellowships at the George Institute for Global Health in the UK and Imperial College.
