Biography

Nicole Wein is an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, working in the Theory of Computation Lab within the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She completed her PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the guidance of Virginia Vassilevska Williams. Her research primarily focuses on theoretical computer science, particularly in areas such as graph algorithms, lower bounds, distance-estimation algorithms, dynamic algorithms, parameterized algorithms, distributed algorithms, online algorithms, and data structures. Nicole is also interested in fine-grained complexity and the algorithmic challenges that arise with changing data. She is dedicated to understanding the structure of shortest paths in graphs, especially directed graphs, and her work often raises questions about the efficiency of algorithms in handling information extraction from graphs. Nicole has co-organized the university's theory seminar and is actively involved in teaching and mentoring students.
