Nicolette Notermans obtained her PhD degree in clinical features and pathogenesis of Chronic Idiopathic Axonal Polyneuropathy (CIAP) and polyneuropathy associated with Monoclonal Gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) in Utrecht in 1994. Her research has focused on the etiology of CIAP and immune-mediated neuropathies, supported by grants from NWO and the Prinses Beatrix Foundation. Notermans has initiated studies on large, national cohorts of patients with CIAP and MGUS, collaborating closely with haematologists across the Netherlands. She is a member of a world-wide task force on vasculitic neuropathy and MGUS neuropathy and has served as the president of the Dutch Neuromuscular Research Organization (ISNO). In 2002, she organized the 7th annual conference of the World Muscle Society in Rotterdam. Furthermore, in 2010, she became the director of a successful neuromuscular diseases residency program that attracts residents from teaching hospitals. Her research line continues to focus on Polyneuropathy.
