Biography

Nida Alahmad is a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations of the Middle East at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Social and Political Science. She holds a PhD from the New School for Social Research and has previously served as a postdoctoral fellow at Georgetown University and a visiting fellow at the European University Institute. Alahmad has also taught at New York University, the University of Toronto, and the New School for Continuing Education. Prior to joining Edinburgh, she was a Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellow at Ghent University’s Department of Conflict and Development Studies. Nida has received numerous honors, including fellowships from the United States Institute of Peace and the Mellon Research Fellowship in Security and Humanitarian Action. Her notable publications include works on state formation and fragmentation in Iraq, emphasizing the interplay between oil and state survival. She actively engages in discussions surrounding her research and has contributed to various academic forums, including the Middle East Centre Blog at LSE and several scholarly journals.
