Biography

Nida Rehman is a Pakistani-born urban geographer and architect, serving as an Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University where she is the Track Chair of the Ph.D. Architecture program. An interdisciplinary scholar and educator, Rehman examines the histories, politics, and ecologies of urban landscapes and infrastructures. Her work lies at the intersection of urban political ecology, environmental humanities, and post/de-colonial studies, exploring discourses surrounding governance and experiences of urban nature shaped by colonialism and uneven development. Nida investigates cultural landscapes and political ecologies specifically in Lahore, Pakistan. She is a co-founder of the South Asia Urban Climates collective that focuses on community-centered approaches to environmental spatial justice. Currently, she is working on a book titled, "The Intractable Garden: Improvement in the unruliness of Lahore’s landscapes," which offers a historically situated reading of gardens as a conceptual category that traces the legacies of colonial improvement that resonate in contemporary urban landscapes, promoting alternative visions for socio-ecological futures. She has contributed to publications in various academic journals and has co-edited works exploring social impacts in urban contexts.
