Biography

Nidhi Seethapathi is the Middleton Career Development Professor in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She joined the BCS faculty in January 2022 and is actively seeking graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and undergraduate researchers for her lab. The Seethapathi lab focuses on building predictive models to understand human movement by employing a combination of theoretical frameworks, computational modeling, and experimental approaches. Her research examines the objectives governing movement decisions, the contexts in which these arise, and how objectives may be traded off against each other. This includes studying the roles of energy, stability, and time in governing movements. Additionally, she explores strategies used to execute movements, investigating the internal and external variables that guide actions and the mathematical relationships between these variables. An area of her research also involves understanding how new movements are learned in response to novel demands and the various solutions explored, including the development of a theory of locomotor adaptation that predicts multiple observed experimental phenomena.
