Biography

Niels Philipsen studied Economics with a specialization in competition policy at Maastricht University and obtained his Ph.D. with a thesis titled 'Regulation Pharmacists Netherlands Belgium: Economic Approach' at the Faculty of Law. He serves as an Associate Professor of Law and Economics at the Maastricht European Institute for Transnational Legal Research (METRO) and was appointed as a Special Professor of Shifts in Private and Public Regulation at the Erasmus School of Law. In November 2016, he also became an Adjunct Professor at the China University of Political Science and Law. Philipsen has conducted research for various organizations, including the European Commission, OECD, and Dutch ministries, and worked as a temporary agent for the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition. He has been involved in collaborative projects such as the FP7 project EFFACE focused on fighting environmental crime in Europe. His research encompasses various aspects of law and economics, and he has authored numerous books and articles in his field.
