Dr. Nienke Peeters

Biography

Nienke Peeters MSc is a lecturer in Health Psychology and Technology at the University of Twente, having started her career there as a Junior Researcher. She graduated as a Social Worker in 2014 from Saxion University and later pursued a pre-master and master's degree in Health Psychology and Technology at the University of Twente. During her studies, she developed a prototype smartphone intervention aimed at assisting cancer patients using principles of self-compassion and mindfulness. Her master thesis involved a qualitative study to understand the needs and desires of cancer patients regarding smartphone-supported self-help interventions. Nienke's research interests span several areas, including participatory design in health interventions, self-compassion in healthcare, and the evaluation of eHealth solutions. She has contributed to various research projects focused on self-management approaches for chronically ill patients. Her work emphasizes patient strengths and coping strategies in disease management. Abroad from direct teaching, she coordinates the Bachelor's thesis module in Health Psychology and Technology and engages in multiple courses related to psychology and intervention design. Nienke is committed to integrating academic research with practical applications in health psychology, particularly in the context of chronic illness and patient support.
