Dr. Nigel Forrest

Biography

Nigel Forrest is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College London, which he joined in late 2022. His academic journey includes lecturing on sustainable business at the University of Northampton and holding post-doctoral positions at Arizona State University School of Sustainability and Leuphana University in Germany. Nigel's research interests focus on enhancing the role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and understanding how businesses can contribute to developing sustainable local economies. He is particularly interested in the questions surrounding organizational forms of sustainability and the transition to radically sustainable business models and practices. His work emphasizes the solutions-oriented research approach, aiming at transformational sustainability and successful examples of sustainable enterprise within local contexts. Recent areas of research include cooperatives and community-based businesses, sustainable food economies, local grain economies, and sustainable entrepreneurship within entrepreneurial ecosystems. His ongoing research also covers transformational urban water solutions and municipal sustainability programs.
