Biography

Nigel Mehdi is a Departmental Lecturer in Sustainable Urban Development at the University of Oxford and a Fellow at Kellogg College. He has a background as an urban economist and chartered surveyor, working at the intersection of information technology, the built environment, and urban sustainability. Nigel earned his PhD in Real Estate Economics from the London School of Economics and holds various postgraduate qualifications in Software Engineering, Politics, Development, Democratic Education, Sustainable Development, and Digital Education Professional Training. He has long-standing involvement in professional education as a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and has served as Chair of the UK Education Standards Board, along with being involved with the Accreditation Team for UK Engineering Council programs. He is also a Fellow of the British Computer Society and the Higher Education Academy. Nigel previously held positions as a Visiting Fellow at the Spatial Economics Research Centre at LSE and a Visiting Scholar at Wolfson College, Cambridge. His teaching includes responsibilities for the economics stream of the Master’s in Sustainable Urban Development and courses in Software Engineering. He has been the Course Director for the UAE Artificial Intelligence Programme and is engaged in graduate research supervision for a DPhil in Sustainable Urban Development. His research interests encompass real estate economics and the application of digital technologies in the urban realm, focusing on sustainability, spatial big data, and smart cities.
