Biography

Nihad M. Farooq is an Associate Professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a Ph.D. in English from Duke University, a Joint M.A. in English and American Literature with a focus on Women’s Studies from Brandeis University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Dartmouth College. Farooq's interdisciplinary research blends literary studies, American Atlantic Studies, ethnic studies, and cultural studies of science ethnography. His significant work, 'Undisciplined: Science, Ethnography, Personhood in the Americas, 1830-1940', published by New York University Press in 2016, examines the transformative power of the encounters between scientists and indigenous diasporic populations during the long nineteenth century in the Americas. He has received various accolades throughout his career, including the W. Howard Ector Outstanding Teacher Award from Georgia Tech and the Andrew W. Mellon/William S. Vaughn Visiting Faculty Research Fellowship at Vanderbilt University.
