Dr. Nihar Biswas

Biography

Nihar Biswas is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Windsor. He holds a PhD from the University of Ottawa and an MASc and B. Eng from the University of Calcutta. His research is focused on the enzymatic treatment of industrial wastewater, water quality, and hazardous waste treatment. He has contributed substantially to the field of civil engineering through his work on wastewater treatment processes using soybean peroxidase techniques. Biswas has published research in prestigious journals and has presented his findings globally. He is actively involved in professional affiliations, including the Professional Engineers Ontario and serves as a co-editor for the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering. He accepts graduate students and is known for his commitment to integrating functionality, resiliency, and sustainability in stormwater infrastructure assessments. Throughout his career, Biswas has received numerous accolades, including the Albert E. Berry Medal for his contributions to environmental engineering in Canada and has been recognized as Engineer of the Year by the PEO Chapter of Windsor-Essex Region.
