Dr. Nihar Desai

Biography

Nihar Desai, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, specializing in Cardiovascular Medicine. He serves as the Vice Chief of the Section of Cardiovascular Medicine and is the Executive Director of the Bundled Payments Clinical Service Line Operations at Yale New Haven Health System. His research focuses on cardiovascular health services and comparative effectiveness research, exploring care patterns and improving clinical outcomes through innovative care delivery systems. Dr. Desai also acts as a clinical consultant for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, emphasizing acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, and mortality measures related to coronary artery bypass graft surgery. He graduated with highest honors from Lehigh University and attended the University of Connecticut School of Medicine for his MD and the Harvard School of Public Health for his MPH. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he was involved with the TIMI Study Group. His scholarly work is widely published in esteemed journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association.
