Biography

Nik Petrinic was a prominent figure in the field of Engineering Science, holding the Royal Academy of Engineering/Rolls-Royce Chair in Impact Engineering at the University of Oxford. His career spanned from joining the Oxford Department of Engineering Science in 1998 until his passing on February 24, 2023. Petrinic specialized in developing and integrating experimental, analytical, and numerical methodologies across a range of disciplines including mathematics, physics, and materials science. His research was pivotal in addressing the behavior of materials under various environmental loading conditions, and he led a multi-disciplinary team focusing on the hygro/hydro-thermal behavior of materials.
