Biography

Niklas joined the Sustainable Technologies (SusTec) program as a PhD candidate in August 2023, researching corporate strategies for achieving net zero emissions. He is particularly interested in the role of carbon markets in the fast decarbonization of the economy and the integration of carbon removal frameworks. His research mainly employs empirical methods, utilizing data science techniques to build novel datasets. Previously, Niklas worked as a Research Specialist at South Pole, a Zurich-based climate solutions provider, where he informed and helped shape strategies for innovative carbon market solutions. He holds a Master's degree in Science, Technology, and Policy, specializing in energy and mobility, and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from ETH Zurich. In his free time, Niklas enjoys running and biking around Zurich and is passionate, albeit moderately talented, at surfing. He loves exploring Zurich's restaurant scene and cherishes spending summer weekends with friends. During winter, he enjoys short trips to Italy, eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring.
