Biography

Nikola Von Merveldt is an Associate Professor at the Université de Montréal, specializing in the field of Literary Studies with a focus on Medieval studies and Comparative literature. Her research interests have evolved to include children's literature and the history of the book. She examines literary works within their historical contexts, particularly the media influences of their time, exploring literature not just as intellectual products but also as material commodities and social mediums. Von Merveldt studies children's literature within its specific historical milieu, scrutinizing current debates on literary, material, and ideological levels to understand how these works resonate in today’s context. She has supervised numerous graduate theses, and has led significant research projects that explore cultural practices in Europe from 1700 to 1900, as well as the historical narratives in children's literature of the 18th and 19th centuries.
