Nikolaos Alachiotis completed his undergraduate studies in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the Technical University of Crete, Greece, followed by a Ph.D. in Informatics at the Technische Universität München, Germany in 2012. His research interests focus on computer architecture, parallel computing, reconfigurable computing, and bioinformatics. He joined the Computer Architecture Lab at Carnegie Mellon University as a post-doctoral researcher in 2014, where he led the design of a generic acceleration architecture for 3D-stacked DRAMs as part of the DARPA-funded PERFECT project. In September 2016, he became part of the Computer Architecture VLSI Systems Laboratory at FORTH-ICS, working on hardware design architecture for disaggregated datacenters under the EU-funded dReDBox project. In June 2019, he joined the Telecommunications Systems Research Institute, focusing on the automated generation of hardware-accelerated software deployment for cloud services within the EU-funded EDRA project. As part of the CAES group at the University of Twente since June 2020, he continues to contribute to the fields of computer science, convolutional neural networks, molecular biology, and genetics.
