Dr. Nikolaos Ringas

Biography

Nikolaos Ringas is a current PhD research student at the School of Engineering, University of Edinburgh, where he is supervised by Dr. Yuner Huang and Prof. Dilum Fernando. He obtained his BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of West Attica in 2016 and completed his MEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering at the University of Edinburgh in 2020. His thesis focused on calibrating a continuum damage mechanics model for low-cycle fatigue in metals. Nikolaos has worked at the University of Edinburgh as a Research Assistant on a project funded by the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre, where he conducted experiments on fastener behavior in sheathed light-gauge steel structures. His current research primarily examines the experimental investigation of the behavior of sheathed cold-formed steel frames under severe in-plane and out-of-plane loading conditions, alongside a numerical investigation to quantify the influence of composite action on the lateral behavior of these frames. He is involved with several professional organizations, including the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering and the Institution of Civil Engineers, and has served as a tutor for various structural engineering courses.
