Dr. Nilam Mangalmurti

Biography

Nilam S. Mangalmurti, MD, is an Associate Professor at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She is an attending physician in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Mangalmurti specializes in critical care medicine, with research interests that include acute lung injury management and the syndromes affecting critically ill patients. Her research program focuses on conditions such as sepsis and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), emphasizing the importance of understanding the host response in these syndromes. Dr. Mangalmurti's lab explores the immunomodulatory functions of red blood cells and their capacity to affect inflammatory responses, which has broad implications for treating critically ill patients. She is also a member of the Lung Biology Institute and the Institute for Immunology.
