Biography

Nilan Jayasiri obtained his Bachelor's degree in Civil Infrastructure Engineering and a Master's degree in Geotechnical Earth Resources Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering at the University of Western Australia (UWA) in Perth. His research focuses on tailings stabilization and the pressing challenges associated with closure. Nilan has also worked as a Geotechnical/Tailings Engineer, where he was responsible for designing tailings storage facilities, conducting field investigations, and performing risk assessments. His research interests include waste management, soft soil engineering, and soft ground tunneling, all of which are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Nilan has been active in his field, contributing significantly through various publications and research collaborations.
