Biography

Nilda Garcia is the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery and a Professor in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at Dell Medical School, University of Texas. She also serves as the Surgeon in Chief and Medical Director of Children's Surgery at Dell Children's Medical Center. Garcia completed her undergraduate education in Pharmacy at the University of Texas in Austin before pursuing her medical degree at UT Southwestern in Dallas. She underwent general surgery residency at UT Southwestern/Parkland Hospital, which included a two-year research fellowship, and completed her fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at Los Angeles Children's Hospital. Prior to returning to Austin, she was the Associate Director of Trauma at Dallas Children's Hospital and practiced as a pediatric surgeon from 1998 to 2010. Garcia is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Pediatric Surgery.
