Biography

Nilgün Önder received her BSc degree with the highest distinction in Political Science and Public Administration from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. She completed her MA at Wilfrid Laurier University and earned her PhD in Political Science from York University, Toronto. Dr. Önder joined the University of Regina in 2003, where she is currently the Associate Vice President (Academic), a position she started on July 1, 2018. Previously, she served as the Coordinator of the International Studies Program from 2006 to 2011 and again from 2013 to 2015, as well as the Acting Associate Dean (Research Graduate) in the Faculty of Arts from 2015 to 2018. She has also held the position of President of the International Studies Association - Canada since 2018. Her areas of specialization include International Relations and Global Political Economy, focusing on Turkey within the global political-economic system. Dr. Önder's research interests encompass power and global governance, global finance and international financial institutions, as well as Foreign Policy Theory and Turkish foreign policy. She teaches courses in Political Science and International Studies within the Department of Politics and International Studies and has published articles in international journals and presented papers at numerous international academic conferences. She is also the author of 'Economic Transformation in Turkey: Neoliberalism and State Intervention,' published by I.B. Tauris in 2016.
