Dr. Niloufer Selvadurai

Biography

Professor Niloufer Selvadurai is a technology law scholar at Macquarie Law School, focusing on the regulation of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). Her work examines how laws and governance frameworks can be designed to balance the benefits and risks of technological innovations. She engages in interdisciplinary legal research, collaborating with experts in computing, engineering, finance, and health. Niloufer serves as the Director of Research and Innovation at Macquarie Law School and is the Co-Director of the Data Horizons Research Centre. She has co-chaired the Australian Law Associate Deans Research Network and played a pivotal role in various research projects pertaining to AI law. Niloufer is a graduate of the University of Sydney with a BA LLB (First Class Hons) and obtained her PhD from Macquarie University. She is admitted as a Solicitor to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and has formerly worked as a solicitor in prominent law firms such as Ashurst and Allens. Her recent publications contribute significantly to the discourse on legal issues arising from automated decision-making, digital finance, and the implications of AI in copyright law. She is active in supervising research students, particularly in the areas of AI regulation and intellectual property law, and has received recognition for her excellence in graduate research supervision.
