Biography

Nils Mårtensson is a Professor at Uppsala University in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. He studied physics, focusing on technical physics, at Uppsala University and defended his PhD thesis in 1980, which was centered on synchrotron radiation and included significant work at the Tantalus storage ring in Madison, Wisconsin, and mainly at the MAX-lab in Lund. Mårtensson held a professorship at the Department of Physics since 1989 and served as the Director of the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory MAX-lab from 1997 to 2010, during which he defined and initiated the MAX IV project. Since 2011, his research focuses primarily on high-resolution time-of-flight electron spectroscopy (ARTOF), utilizing networks like the BESSY II facility at Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin (HZB).
