Biography

Nils Olsson is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg, primarily teaching creative writing, theory, literature, and editorial collective processes, with a special focus on the materialities of literature and experimental forms of distribution. He leads the research cluster 'Politics, Practices, and Publics' at the HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design. Olsson's PhD dissertation, 'The Art of Putting Text to Work,' published in book form in 2013, investigates the medial relationships between art forms and modernism, particularly the writings of Gertrude Stein. His scholarly output includes the experimental book/essay 'e. editorial aesthetic category,' a treatise on editorial art forms released in 2022, which involved collective work, chance, and alternative modes of distribution. He has co-edited the anthology 'Writing Light. Literature Photography' (2020), which further explores the affiliations between visual and literary arts, showcasing the relationships between Gertrude Stein and modernist photographers. Over the years, Olsson has published extensively as an essayist and art/literature critic, mainly in Swedish, and has worked as an editor for independent publishing houses and cultural journals, notably Glänta, where he is a founder of the book publishing branch. Recently, he has engaged with the publishing platform OEI on various projects.
