Dr. Nils Skoglund

Biography

Nils Skoglund's research focuses on resource recovery, sustainable energy systems, and advanced material characterization using synchrotrons, which are critical tools in his field. He aims to enable nutrient resource recovery for the energy sector by optimizing fuel design with renewable energy resources, improving ash quality, and contributing to a sustainable society. His research centers on developing common fuel blend compositions derived from forestry, agriculture, and waste streams. Skoglund conducts fundamental studies of phosphate structures in ash fractions to investigate their potential applications for plant growth and their effects on heavy metal mobility related to phosphorus and potassium uptake. He has established synchrotron-based analytical methods that assist research in achieving sustainability and facilitating interdisciplinary collaborations with various research groups and universities. He has held various academic positions at Umeå University, including Associate Professor and Docent in Energy Technology, and has led efforts in several research projects aimed at achieving sustainable bioeconomy initiatives and shaping climate-friendly practices within the energy sector.
