Professor Nils Thuerey works in the field of computer graphics, with a particular emphasis on physics-based deep learning algorithms. His research targets the simulation of fluid phenomena, including water and smoke, and these simulations find applications in visual effects and computer-generated worlds. Professor Thuerey has developed novel algorithms that make simulations easier to control, handle detailed surface tension effects, and increase the amount of turbulent detail. He studied computer science and acquired his PhD with work on liquid simulations in 2006. He received degrees from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 2010, he held a position as a post-doctoral researcher at ETH Zurich, collaborating with Ageia/Nvidia. Subsequently, he worked for several years as the Research & Development Lead at ScanlineVFX, developing large-scale physics simulators for visual effects. In fall 2013, he became a Professor of Physics-based Simulation at the Technical University of Munich.
