Biography

Nilvio Alexander Punguil Bravo is a doctoral student in the PhD program of Civil Society and Community Research at the University of Wisconsin–Madison's School of Human Ecology. His research is action-oriented and focuses on community outreach, aiming to foster positive mental health outcomes among underserved populations. He seeks to implement arts as a form of collective therapeutic expression to heal trauma in communities suffering from oppression, particularly among minority groups. Punguil Bravo graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2020 with a master's degree in social work with a focus on mental health. He completed his bachelor's degree in rehabilitation psychology at UW–Madison in 2017 and holds an Associate Degree in Applied Arts with a specialization in Graphic Design Illustration from Madison College, which he obtained in 2010. He has experience as a teaching assistant in Spanish at UW's Spanish and Portuguese departments and has performed various field placements providing mental health services. His involvement includes working with adolescents with special needs and community organizations advocating for mental health and artistic expression. Punguil Bravo has also contributed to the design of materials for Habitat for Humanity and has been recognized on the Dean's List multiple times throughout his academic career.
