Dr. Nima Maftoon

Biography

Nima Maftoon is an Associate Professor in the Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. His research focuses on understanding auditory mechanisms and developing advanced medical devices for hearing loss diagnosis and treatment. His work incorporates principles from biomechanics, acoustics, and system identification to create innovative engineering solutions tailored to the needs of his research labs: the Hearing Lab and the Computational Metastasis Lab. The Hearing Lab specializes in the development of devices and methodologies for the diagnosis and treatment of auditory pathologies, leveraging state-of-the-art acoustic vibration measurements and computational modeling. The Computational Metastasis Lab aims to enhance personalized cancer treatments using advanced computational algorithms and clinical image processing, focusing on the behavior of cancer cells in various environments. Nima Maftoon has an extensive educational background, holding a Doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from McGill University and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Hearing Science and Technology from Harvard Medical School. He has published numerous articles in high-impact journals, contributing significantly to the fields of auditory mechanics and cancer mechanics.
