Biography

Nina Kohn is a Visiting Professor of Law at Yale Law School and a Distinguished Professor of Law at Syracuse University, where she also serves as a Board Advisors Professor at the College of Law. She is a faculty affiliate of the Syracuse University Aging Studies Institute and a member of the American Law Institute. Kohn's research primarily focuses on elder law, civil rights of older adults, and issues related to diminished cognitive capacity. Her published articles address topics such as long-term care, supported surrogate decision-making, abuse and exploitation of the elderly, and age discrimination. She is the author of 'Elder Law: Practice, Policy & Problems' (Aspen, 3d ed. 2024). Additionally, Kohn has served in various public interest roles, including as a reporter for the Uniform Health Care Decisions Act and the Uniform Guardianship, Conservatorship, and Protective Arrangements Act. She clerked for the Honorable Fred Parker on the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit and was awarded a fellowship from the Skadden Fellowship Foundation for her work in providing direct representation to nursing home residents and frail elders. Kohn has received multiple honors for her outstanding teaching, including the Res Ipsa Loquitur award from Syracuse University College of Law and the Judith Greenberg Seinfeld Distinguished Faculty Fellowship.
