Biography

Nirvikar Jassal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the London School of Economics (LSE). His research focuses on policing, crime, and criminal justice, with a regional emphasis on South Asia. He employs quasi-experiments, experiments, and machine learning techniques to explore issues such as violence against women, hate crime, perceptions of law enforcement, and accountability within the criminal justice system. His writings have been published in prestigious journals including the American Political Science Review, Comparative Political Studies, and Science. Prior to his academic career, he worked with the Council on Foreign Relations in New York City and served as an aide in the office of Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Jassal earned his Bachelor’s degree from Columbia University in 2010, an MSc from Oxford University in 2012, and a PhD from the University of California—Berkeley in 2020, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford in 2022.
