Dr. Nirvikar Jassal

Biography

Nirvikar Jassal is an Assistant Professor in Political Science with a focus on policing, crime, and criminal justice, particularly in the context of South Asia. His research utilizes quasi-experiments and experiments alongside machine learning techniques to understand complex issues such as violence against women, hate crimes, and perceptions of law enforcement. His academic contributions have appeared in prestigious journals including the American Political Science Review and Comparative Political Studies, among others. Jassal’s experience also includes working with the Council on Foreign Relations in New York City and serving as an aide to former Mayor Michael Bloomberg. He holds a BA from Columbia University, an MSc from Oxford University, and a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. Following his doctorate, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University.
