Biography

Nisha J D'Silva is the Donald Kerr Endowed Collegiate Professor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where she serves as a Professor of Oral Pathology and also holds a position within the University of Michigan Medical School as a Professor of Pathology. A dedicated cancer biologist and oral pathologist, Dr. D'Silva's translational research specializes in head and neck cancer, focusing on biomarkers, molecular mechanisms, tumor progression, and treatment resistance. Her impressive academic journey began with a dental degree from the University of Bombay, India, followed by a residency in Oral Maxillofacial Pathology and a Master's degree from Indiana University in Indianapolis. She earned her PhD from the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. D'Silva's research has garnered funding from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research and the National Institutes of Health, and she has received numerous accolades, including the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Oral Medicine Pathology Research International Association and the Rod Cawson Prize from the International Association of Oral Pathologists. As a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Maxillofacial Pathology, she also enjoys teaching and mentoring students and has been honored with the Michigan Institute Clinical Health Research Distinguished Mentor Award.
