Biography

Nisha Kapoor is an Associate Professor in Sociology at the University of Warwick, where she joined in December 2018. Previously, she has worked at the University of York in the UK and held appointments at Duke University as a Samuel DuBois Cook Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity, and Gender in the Social Sciences. She earned her PhD in Sociology from the University of Manchester in 2010. Kapoor's research interests are broadly concerned with racism and the security state, addressing issues such as immigration, citizenship, criminalization, Islamophobia, and segregation. She employs critical race theory and postcolonial political theory in her work, which currently examines how surveillance processes and technologies shape bordering practices in national contexts, particularly in the UK and India. Kapoor's research utilizes relational methodologies and has been funded by the ESRC Future Research Leaders Award. She is the author of the book "Deport Deprive Extradite: 21st Century State Extremism" and has published numerous articles and book chapters exploring themes of race, gender, and security in relation to contemporary sociopolitical landscapes.
