Dr. Nita Ahuja

Biography

Nita Ahuja is a distinguished professor at the Yale School of Medicine and a noted leader in the field of surgical oncology. She serves as the Dean of the School of Medicine and Public Health and Vice Chancellor for Clinical Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ahuja completed her medical education at Duke University School of Medicine and her surgical training at Johns Hopkins University, where she also focused on hepatobiliary malignancies during her fellowship in surgical oncology. Her specialization includes managing complex gastrointestinal cancers, such as sarcomas and pancreatic cancers, where she has built an international reputation, particularly in the management of peritoneal cancer metastases through cytoreduction and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy. A passionate advocate for innovative cancer treatments, she leads an NIH-funded laboratory that investigates biomarkers for pancreatic and colon cancers using liquid biopsies and stool DNA. Ahuja has contributed significantly to the academic community with over 300 publications, holding esteemed positions in various surgical associations. She has received multiple awards for her contributions to the field, including the William J. Reinhoff, Jr. Scholar Award and the Society of Surgical Oncology Clinical Investigator Award.
