Biography

Nita Ahuja is the immediate past chair of the Department of Surgery at Yale School of Medicine and currently serves as the Dean of the School of Medicine and Public Health and Vice Chancellor for Clinical Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She obtained her medical education from Duke University School of Medicine and completed her general surgery training and a surgical oncology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. Ahuja, who joined the faculty in 2003, specializes in the management of sarcomas and complex gastrointestinal cancers, including gastric, rectal, and pancreatic cancers. She has developed an international reputation for her work in managing peritoneal cancer metastases using cytoreduction and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy. Dr. Ahuja is an advocate for multidisciplinary approaches to cancer treatment and has been recognized as a top doctor by multiple organizations. Prior to her role at Yale, she was the director of the sarcoma and gastric cancer programs. Ahuja runs an NIH-funded laboratory focused on developing new biomarkers for pancreatic and colon cancers and has led numerous national and international clinical trials. Her contributions to surgical and basic science fields include over 300 published papers and book chapters. She has received several prestigious awards and holds leadership positions in professional organizations including the National Academy of Medicine and the American Surgical Association.
