Biography

Nitin P. Padture is the Otis E. Randall University Professor in the School of Engineering at Brown University, where he also serves as the founding Director of the Initiative for Sustainable Energy. He obtained a B.Tech. in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 1985, an M.S. in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University in 1987, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering from Lehigh University in 1991. Padture had a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Standards and Technology before joining the University of Connecticut as an Assistant Professor in January 1995, where he became an Associate Professor in 1998 and a Professor in 2003. He has served as Interim Department Head and has received numerous prestigious awards, including being elected as a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. His research focuses on advanced ceramics and nanomaterials, particularly in applications such as solar photovoltaics and energy efficiency. Padture has authored or co-authored over 290 publications and holds nine patents.
